Silver could destabilise the membrane either directly by altering intrinsic membrane proteins or indirectly by acting on ribosomes, which would produce misfolded aborted polypeptides that would eventually go to the inner membrane. Increased permeability of membrane would provoke massive aminoglycoside uptake.
