The smaller blue-staining spherical structures (white arrows) are L-forms with cytoplasmic proteins intact; while larger spherical structures (black arrows) are oxidized L-forms that are swollen and lack cytoplasmic proteins, and as a consequence do not stain blue internally (bar = 20 µm).
