Effect of mixing rates on SR7 growth in LB medium under 1 atm CO2 for cultures inoculated from spores (A,B) or vegetative cells (C,D). Growth was measured by CFUs/ml (A,C) and OD600 (B,D). Optical density was measured in 200 μl using a microplate reader and error bars represent the standard deviation of triplicate cultures. As expected, lag times for cultures inoculated with spores were longer than for those inoculated with vegetative cells due to time required for germination.
