Proposed topological model of the B. cereus acyl-lipid desaturase DesA. This model shows that DesA contains four TM domains (TM1–4), two peripheral helices (P1–2), and both the N and C termini oriented toward the cytosol. The residues colored in red represent the conserved His boxes, which are catalytically essential. Residues colored in light blue represent the AA residues that were mutated. Tyr40 is highlighted in yellow.
