Medication reduction algorithm. Screening Tool of Older Person’s Prescriptions (STOPP) criteria withdraw one of the following medications if any of the ensuing contraindications are identified: thiazide diuretic with a history of gout (may exacerbate gout), beta-blocker in combination with verapamil (risk of symptomatic heart block), non-cardioselective beta-blocker with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (risk of bronchospasm), calcium channel blockers with chronic constipation (may exacerbate constipation), use of diltiazem or verapamil with New York Heart Association class III or IV heart failure (may worsen heart failure).
