Schematic of the physical model. Solar irradiation imposed at the tropopause z = 0 is absorbed, scattered and transmitted through the troposphere and absorbed by the Earth's surface. The Earth's surface radiates energy with long wavelength. Collimated and diffuse irradiation and their reflections, heat conduction and convection occur on the Earth's surface at z = H.
