Table 3.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis transcripts in vitreous samples from intraocular tuberculosis patients.

Samples categories Sample ID Rv1230c Rv1971
Possible IOTB H-IOTB-S4 D+
H-IOTB-S5 R+
H-IOTB-S9 D+ D+
Confirmed IOTB H-IOTB-S11
H-IOTB-S12 D+ D+
H-IOTB-S13 D+ D+
H-IOTB-S14 R+ D+
H-IOTB-S15 D+ D+
H-IOTB-S16 R+ R+
H-IOTB-S17 R+ D+

Human vitreous samples from two different categories of IOTB were examined for M. tuberculosis transcripts corresponding to Rv1230c, Rv1971, and Rv3872 genes using H37Rv (as a positive control). Transcripts which showed CT value in RT+ sample were denoted as R+ (as the CT was due to cDNA synthesized from RNA), while early CT value in RT- of the same sample was denoted as D+ (as the CT was due to the presence of DNA). Rv3872 is negative for all clinical samples at both RNA and DNA levels. IOTB, intraocular tuberculosis; cDNA, complementary deoxyribonucleic acid; RT, reverse transcriptase; RT-PCR, real-time polymerase chain reaction; H-IOTB, all clinical samples identity number. +, Positive; –, Negative.
