Immunofluorescence localization of FtsZ in a strain expressing ΔN-FtsZ. BG11-grown filaments of Anabaena (WT), CSFR18 (P_ND-ftsZ) and CSL110 (P_ND-ftsZ, P_ftsZ-Δ5′-ftsZ) were incubated under culture conditions in BG11 (${\mathrm{N}\mathrm{O}}_{\mathrm{3}}^{\mathrm{-}}$) or BG11₀ plus ammonium (${\mathrm{N}\mathrm{H}}_{\mathrm{4}}^{\mathrm{+}}$) medium and then prepared for immunofluorescence with anti-Anabaena FtsZ-protein antibodies and visualized by fluorescence microscopy. Magnification was the same for all micrographs. Arrows in ammonium-incubated CSL110 filaments point to FtsZ ring-like structures (yellow), or to aberrant FtsZ structures (white). Merged bright-field and fluorescence images are shown.
