Model for the roles of cTAGE5/MEA6 in brain development. cTAGE5/MEA6 cKO in the brain affects the interaction between SAR1 and SEC23 in neurons. This would lead to the disruption of the cycling of SAR1 activity, which is replaced by persistent elevated level of SAR1-GTP and, thus, defects in COPII vesicle formation and transport from the ER to the Golgi. This will result in fragmentation of the Golgi structure, disturbing the trafficking of both proteins and lipids in neurons and defects in brain development.
