Schematic sequence-driven activity-based assay used to screen for teretoxin function. Venom glands are dissected from terebrids in the field. RNA is extracted in the lab and sequenced using next-generation sequencing. Transcriptomic data are assembled and searched for peptide candidates. Selected peptides are chemically synthesized, oxidized and injected into flies. Bioactivity is measured in several behavioral assays.
