Compounds 6a (turquoise) and 17 (orange) and vehicle control DMSO (white) were tested for their ability to induce reverse mutations at the histidine locus of strains TA98 (A), TA100 (B), TA1535 (C), and TA1537 (D) of Salmonella typhimurium and strain WP2 uvrA(pKM101) (E) of Escherichia coli in the presence of exogenous rat liver S9 fractions. Individual revertant colonies were counted and graphed as a function of compound concentration (400 and 1000 μg/well). Fold-change for those conditions that were >2.0× greater than DMSO vehicle control are shown above each bar, along with p-values determined from a two-tailed t-test.
