Topical infections were generated by immersing of conidial suspensions of tested strains (5 μl of 1 × 10⁷ conidia ml⁻¹ in cotton seed oil). For injection assays, insects were injected conidial suspensions of tested strains (5 μl of 1 × 10⁶ conidia ml⁻¹ in sterile water with 0.01% Tween 80). Three replicate groups had 30 larvae each. Controls were treated with pure cotton seed oil or sterile water containing 0.01% Tween 80 only.
