P. gingivalis HmuY and its homologs in T. forsythia (Tfo), Bacteroides fragilis and Bacteroides vulgatus (shown in red) and other genes identified in the P. gingivalis hmu and hmu-like operons (shown in gray) are shown. The gene marked in black does not exhibit homology to the gene encoding PGA7_RS02040 (putative ATPase) in P. gingivalis. Genes marked with open arrows do not exist in all bacteria presented here. The gene marked in gray diagonal stripes encodes a TonB-dependent outer-membrane receptor, which is less homologous to P. gingivalis HmuR.
