Effect of the genotype class of the C667T polymorphism of MTHFR on serum homocysteine and 5-MTHF levels. (A) A 2% agarose gel image of the different genotype classes of the C677T polymorphism of MTHFR observed in the patients following the use of a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism strategy. Patients were then categorized according to their C677T genotype class and analysis of variance followed by a post-hoc Tukey's test was then performed to determine if significant differences existed in (B) serum 5-MTHF or (C) serum homocysteine levels between the different genotype classes. The concentration of serum homocysteine is expressed in µmol/l while the serum concentration of 5-MTHF is expressed in ng/ml.
