SakA and MpkC inactivation results in sensitivity to cell wall damaging in conidia and mycelia. (A) Spores (1 × 104) from strains CLK43 (WT), COS0020ΔmpkC (ΔmpkC), CRJ1 (ΔsakA), CRJ11 (ΔmpkC ΔsakA) and COSΔpbsB05 (ΔpbsB) were inoculated on supplemented MM plates containing cell wall damaging compounds Calcofluor (20 μg/ml) or Congo red (30 μg/ml) and incubated at 37°C for 2 days. (B) Mycelial plugs cut from the growing edge of 5-day colonies from strains CLK43 (WT), COS0020ΔmpkC (ΔmpkC), CRJ1 (ΔsakA), CRJ11 (ΔmpkC ΔsakA), and COSΔpbsB05 (ΔpbsB) were transferred to plates containing Calcofluor (20 μg/ml) or Congo red (30 μg/ml) and incubated at 37°C for 4 days.
