Thomas Young and his unsafe studies on the human eye! This page (plate V) from Young’s paper “On the Mechanism of the Eye” (4) shows some of Young’s thinking on the workings of the human eye. Figures 17 and 18 show sections of Young’s right eye, Figs. 19 and 20 show his left eye with different pupil dilations. Figures 21 and 22 illustrate different configurations of the muscles of the eye and their action on eye shape.
