(A) LS and SS parasites isolated from rodents were washed extensively and resuspended in very-low-glucose PF medium, SDM79θ (-glc, ∼5 μM), supplemented with (5 mM) or without additional glucose at 27°C, and growth was monitored. Growth curves are representative of at least two assays. (B and C) IF analysis of parasites after incubation for 7 days with or without glucose. Fixed parasites were visualized by epifluorescence microscopy using antiserum against EP procyclin (B) or PAD1 (C).
