Treatment with apocynin for a week reduces seizure-induced neuronal cell death. Anti-neuron nuclear antigen (NeuN) staining was performed to identify live neurons. (A) A micrograph showing live neurons in the sham group, the seizure control group, and the apocynin treatment group. Apocynin treatment shows a substantially increased number of NeuN+ cells in the hippocampus of the seizure group. Scale bar = 100 μm.
