Whole corneas were fixed and stained with anti-Class III β-tubulin antibody. The number of nerves, number of nerve branches, and nerve density were measured and compared across groups. Both young (4-week-old) and older (12-week-old) WT mice displayed abundant nerve branches emerging from the nerve trunk near the limbus area (A,C respectively). The nerve density in corneas from TSP-1−/− mice was significantly lower than that in age-matched WT counterparts (B,D,E). n = 6 for all groups.
