The two boxes represent domains-specific computations solving two different tasks such as visual and auditory discrimination. Decision-making proceeds in a domain-specific fashion following the principles of Bayesian inference, while a metacognitive layer computes confidence (= p(correct|data)) in each task. Metacognitive inference is itself under the control of priors that may be updated based on previous experience.
