Table 2.

Baseline characteristics of ITT population.

Baseline characteristics (ITT) EPO (n = 45) Placebo (n = 39) Sum (n = 84)
Age – years (SD) 48.5 ± 16.2 46.6 ± 15.0
Age ≥60 years – no. (%) 8 (18%) 10 (26%) 18 (21%)
Female 12 (27%) 6 (15%) 18 (21%)
ABSI score ≥7 – no. (%) 24 (53%) 26 (67%) 34 (40%)
TBS-Sum – % (SD) 24.9 ± 11.7 26.6 ± 13.3
AEs – no. (%) 36 (80%) 30 (77%) 66 (79%)
SAEs – no. (%) 11 (24%) 8 (21%) 19 (23%)
Death – no. (%) 1 (2%) 1 (2%) 2 (2%)

For the ITT population data are mean and standard deviation or n (%). ABSI score = Abbreviated burn severity index score = The ABSI Score describes the severity of the burn or scalding injury and the prognosis of the patient. The lower the ABSI score the better is the prognosis of the patient. An ABSI over 7 relates to a serious threat of life, with a probability of survival between 70 and 0%. TBS-Sum = total body surface thermally injured in %. AEs = adverse events: number of patients with AEs, SAEs = serious adverse events: number of patients with SAEs. Abbreviated Burn Severity Index (Tobiasen et al., 1982).
