a B16 melanoma and HeLa cervical cancer cells were incubated for 72 h in the presence of compounds 5–8 and 13–16, and then the percentages of viable cells were determined by MTT assay. The drug concentrations required to inhibit cell viability by 50% (IC50) were determined from semi-logarithmic concentration-response plots, and the results represent the means ± s.d. of triplicate samples. b n.d., not determined.
