The errorbars are the 95% confidence interval for the distributions. Once the flow is decreased to 1/3 of its initial value, the resultant bacterial populations all dramatically increased, although Desulfovibrio increased by a larger margin than the other genera. When conditions were reverted to initial values, the populations of the bacteria fell to their initial steady states.
