Abstract
Economic stability and access to healthcare are important components of the social determinants of health. The ability to pay for basic expenses such as food, prescription drugs, healthcare services and housing are critical for health and well-being. Older adults with fixed and limited incomes are particularly vulnerable to economic insecurity, which in turn can be detrimental to their health. The numbers are staggering: half of all Medicare beneficiaries are living on incomes below $26,200 per year. NCOA’s programs and tools help vulnerable older Americans increase their economic security by connecting them with public benefits and providing support and guidance in decision-making related to their financial situation. This presentation will highlight administrative as well as available outcome data on these programs and their impact on older adults who are struggling.
