Effects of gossypol (GSP) on glucose uptake in C2C12 myotubes. (a) Time course of the effect of GSP on glucose uptake in C2C12 myotubes. Cells were treated with GSP (2 μM) alone or GSP (2 μM), followed by insulin (100 nM) for 30 min, and then incubated for the time periods indicated. (b) The dose-response relationship of the effects of GSP on glucose uptake on C2C12 myotubes. Cells were incubated with GSP for 2 h. Rosiglitazone (20 μM) was used as a positive control. The data denote means ± SEM of three independent experiments. p < 0.05 and ∗∗ p < 0.01, versus basal glucose uptake (no insulin stimulation); # p < 0.05 and ## p < 0.01, versus insulin-activated glucose uptake.
