Improved culturability of starved E. coli supplemented with unsaturated fatty acids. E. coli MG1655 cultures with decreased c.f.u. after exposure to cold and starvation conditions were cultured on M9CAGlc-agarose plates with or without 20 µg ml⁻¹ oleic acid (OA). The total cell count and viable cell counts were also determined. The c.f.u. calculation was performed in triplicate, and the error bars indicate standard deviations.
