Reduced membrane potential in the absence of Hfq. Determination of the proton motive force in PA14 (A) and in PAO1 (B) and their corresponding hfq deletion strains using the BacLight^TM kit. The strains were grown in SCFM to an OD₆₀₀ of 1.8–2.0. The analysis was performed as described in Materials and Methods. The wild type strains and the corresponding hfq deletion strains are indicated by blue and red bars, respectively. Membrane depolarization in PA14 (A; green bar) and in PAO1 (B, green bar) was elicited with the addition of CCCP. The experiments were performed in duplicates. Error bars are given as standard deviation of the means over the populations of the biological replicates.
