Release of HCAs from the methyl ester substrate. (A) The relative activity of CaeA against synthetic HCA esters; methyl ferulate, ethyl ferulate and methyl caffeate. Assays were performed in 1 mM NaH₂PO₄/K₂HPO₄ pH 7 at 37°C for 2 h with a protein concentration of 6 μg/ml. Data is representative of mean values and standard error of the mean. ^∗No measurable enzyme activity was found against methyl sinapinate. (B) The structure of Methyl ferulate.
