MMP-12 expression is regulated by several pathophysiological, pharmacological, and endogenous factors. MMP-12 has diverse actions on cardiomyocytes, neutrophils, monocytes and macrophages, lymphocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells that may promote inflammation resolution and scar formation.
