Fructose treatment reduced levels of plasticity markers TrkB and CREB in hippocampus involving the action of Bgn. Fructose treatment decreased the ratio pTrkB/TrkB (A) and pCREB/CREB (B) in hippocampal neurons from WT animals but not from Bgn0/− animals. Treatment of neurons with Bgn siRNA for 72 h blocked the effects of fructose (5 mM) on pTrkB/TrkB (C) and pCREB/CREB (D). Bars denote densitometric assessments of Western blot bands.
