Figure 1

Comparison between unhealthy eating-habits around sleep and short sleep and sleep and healthy eating-habits around sleep. Sufficient time periods exist around sleep and sufficient fasting occurs before the breakfast meal in sleep and healthy eating-habits around sleep (SHEHAS), but not in unhealthy eating-habits around sleep and short sleep (UEHASs). If individuals with late-night dinner eating (LNDE) delay their bedtime to allow for a certain time period before sleep, or prolong the duration of sleep, the opportunity for taking a breakfast may be missed owing to delayed wakeup. DIT: Diet-induced thermogenesis; GERD: Gastroesophageal reflux disease.
