Six measures for treating disease. Measures have one or more of three proximate effects: kill (cytotoxic), disable (cytostatic) or starve the BEA. Killing the BEA is the most likely of the three to select for resistance. Combination therapies (two or more measures) are most likely to succeed if they do not interfere with one another in mode of action and do not select for resistance in the same or in linked genes.
