Antibiotic concentration-dependent increase of the red (dead) biovolume of biofilms. Biofilms were cultivated for 48 h and exposed to different concentrations of colistin (A and C) and tobramycin (B and D) for 4 h (A and B) and continuously (C and D). Data are means ± SDs of two positions in two independent experiments. Data for biofilms treated for 4 h with 10 µg ml−1 of colistin and 20 µg ml−1 of tobramycin are shown in Fig. 1.
