Schematic diagram of the connections and possible interactions between the Striatum and the MTL, based on those by Hikosaka and colleagues (1999; 2002). Based on the anatomical organization of the striatum, together with previous physiological findings, we propose that the strong interactions will be seen between the MTL and the associative division of the striatum, which may be modulated by pattern separation demands.
