Cervical CD14+ cells reproducibly transmit HIV to activated CD4+ T cells. HIV infection was assessed by measuring p24 Ag in media at indicated times of activated human blood CD4+ T cell co-culture with sorted CD3+CD4+ T cells, CD3+CD8+ T cells, or CD14+ myeloid cells harvested from dissociated human cervical explants 20 h post-infection with HIV strain JRCSF.
