Schematic representation of the tumour microenvironment of a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) in the context of the brainstem. Paediatric brain tumours form in the context of the developing CNS, adding an extra layer of complexity compared to adult brain tumours. By understanding the signalling pathways that govern brainstem development and the way they interact with the tumour, we can try to dissect the drivers of growth and resistance.
