(R)-N,N-Bis(2-quinolylmethyl)-S-methyl cystein (L-CysBQA) complexes with Cu2+/Zn2+ and Hg2+. The chiral center of the amino acid dictates the orientation of the quinoline chromophores via a gearing mechanism as illustrated.
