NJXA induced cleavage of pro-caspase-3 in xenografted tumors. HeLa cells (1 × 106 cells per mouse) were injected subcutaneously into the dorsal flank of nude mice. When the tumors reached approximately 75 mm3, the mice received a daily intraperitoneal injection of either the vehicle control (1% Tween-80 in normal saline) or NJXA (20 mg/kg) or an injection of cisplatin (2 mg/kg) every 2 days. After treatment for 16 days, the mice were sacrificed. (A) Western blotting analysis of the expression levels of pro-caspase-3 and GAPDH protein in mouse tumor sections; (B) Representative images of tumor sections immunohistochemically stained to examine the cleaved caspase-3 level.
