Mass spectra of the DAG region from rat brain samples with (bottom) and without (top) the addition of salt. Asterix (*) indicates peaks that were only found in the control sample. All the “DAG” labeled peaks are [M+H-H2O]+/[M-RCOO]+ ions. Intensities are normalized to the number of pixels selected in the image and the cholesterol peak at m/z 369.3. Analysis were done using a 40 keV (CO2)6k+ ion beam at a primary ion dose of 5 × 1013 ions/cm2.
