Cx43 is the most abundant connexin expressed in rat tanycytes. Expression of connexin Cx26, Cx30 and Cx43 was measured by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) in (A) whole rat hypothalamic tissues (N = 3 animals) and (B) primary cultures of rat tanycytes (P1, N = 3 independent primary cultures). Transcriptional expression was normalized to the cyclophilin housekeeping gene. Representative electrophoresis of the RT-qPCR products is shown (bottom panels), although the blot for Cx30 was not detectable in the gel e = EXP.
