a) Experimental design for evaluating biocompatibility. DSS-colitis was established by administrating 2% DSS in drinking water for 5 days. The empty LNPssPalm was administered intravenously at a dose of 2 μmol lipid/mouse. Body weight and colon length were measured as an index of inflammation in colon. b) Changes in body weight. The body weight from day 1 to day 8 was normalized by those of day 0. The data are represented as the mean ± SD (n = 6). c) Evaluation of colon length. At day 9, mice were sacrificed, and colon samples were dissected. The colon lengths were measured from the bottom of the cecum to the aboral end of the rectum. The data are represented as the average (rectangle) with individual values (diamonds and circles) (n = 6). Statistical analyses were performed by One-way ANOVA followed by Dunnett's test (*; p < 0.05, **; p < 0.01).
