Histological findings of endomyocardial biopsy specimen. Marked myocardial fibrosis (A) with inflammatory infiltrate consisting of lymphocytes and eosinophils can be seen (B). Also, infiltration by multinucleated giant cells is evident (black arrow) (hematoxylin–eosin stain, A: 40×; B: 200×). Immunostaining with Propionibacterium acnes-specific monoclonal antibodies in inflammatory lesions was negative (C). If positive, brown and small round bodies should be seen in some of the inflammatory cells.
