Variants in the 5′ regions of BRCA1 alter DNA:protein complex formation. Electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) reactions were performed with 3′ biotinylated double‐stranded DNA probes from the BRCA1 5′ region and nuclear extracts (NE) from (a) MCF7 or (b) MDA‐MB‐468 cells.
