Disease-specific differences in O-glycan and sialic acid-specific lectin binding to human skeletal muscle. Serial transverse 5 μm sections of anonymized, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded, healthy and dystrophic human skeletal muscle were rehydrated and stained with biotinylated lectins: Jac, ACA, PNA, WGA, TJA-I, MAA-II, NPA, WFA and DBA. Bound lectins were detected with Texas Red-Avidin D (red) and sections were counterstained with DAPI. “Other” lectin nominal specificities: NPA- high mannose N-glycans, WFA- GalNAc, DBA- GalNAc.
