The estimation of synergistic effects between cathelicidins was performed by calculating the fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) according to the equation: FICI = FICA + FICB = [À]/MICÀ + [B]/MICB, where MICÀ and MICB are the MICs of individual peptides, while [A] and [B] are the MICs of A and B when used together. A synergistic effect was defined at a FICI ≤ 0.5.
