DCP = dicalcium phosphate; AID = apparent ileal digestible lysine; SAA = sulphur amino acids.

1

Phytase (Axtra PHY, Danisco Animal Nutrition/DuPont IB) was top dressed to the NC diet. PC: positive control. NC: negative control.

2

Fat (A/V) refers to a mixing of animal and vegetable fat.

3

Supplied the following per kg of finished feed: 9,921 IU vitamin A; 1,544 IU vitamin D3; 53 IU vitamin E; 4 mg vitamin K; 27.5 mg pantothenic acid; 8 mg riboflavin; 40 mg niacin; 0.03 mg vitamin B12.

4

Supplied the following per kg of finished feed: 13.5 mg Cu from copper sulphate; 120 mg Zn from zinc sulphate; 94 mg Fe from ferrous sulphate; 36 mg Mn manganese sulphate (50%) and manganese oxide (50%); 0.3 mg I from calcium iodate; 0.3 mg Se from sodium selenite.

5

Analyzed Ca, P and phytate P levels in phytase treatments are similar to NC, for each phase.

6

NA: not analyzed, NC finisher 2 diets were not fed. The NC + phytase treatments had an analyzed Ca level of 0.52%.

7

Phytase activity in the diets expressed as FTU/kg and analyzed by Eurofins Scientific, Inc. (Des Moines, USA). The analyzed average phytase activity across all phases was 591 FTU/kg for NC + 500 FTU treatment and 1,516 FTU/kg for NC + 1,000 FTU treatment, after deduction of the phytase activity in NC diets.
