Overall landscape of plasma/serum ncRNAs biomarkers of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The functional network was constructed by manual text mining on bibliography, and connects every ncRNA with a particular CVD where it has been described as functional biomarker in any of the following items: onset, progression, prognostic, diagnostic or therapeutic response to treatments (see Supplementary Table S2 for more details). Network was firstly produced by Navigator software¹¹⁷ and further manually refined by graphical editing. MiRNAs are represented as triangles and lncRNAs as hexagons. The size of each ncRNA symbol is proportional to the number of functional relationships established as biomarker with cardiovascular conditions. The names of miRNAs also experimentally characterized as main functional players in cardiovascular conditions are highlighted in bold and underlined text. For clarity reasons, miRNA nomenclature from miRBase 21.0 has been abbreviated by removing the specific human (hsa) prefix.
