Efficacy and safety of drugs. The monotherapies, CHC or metformin (Met), and the combinatorial therapy using both drugs significantly inhibited cell proliferation in vitro (A). These drugs also induced cell death (B). Distinct drugs or the appropriate vehicle (Sham) was i.p. injected daily into mice (C). 15 mg/kg CHC in combination with 125 mg/kg metformin was safe for mice (D). These drugs did not significantly increase the AST activity, a liver toxicity indicator, in blood plasma (E). CHC plus metformin slightly decreased the tumor weight (F). *P ≤ 0.008.
