Murine herpesvirus (MHV) infection alters the community composition of lung microbiota but has no effect on community diversity. (A) MHV infection results in a resolving pneumonitis that is associated with significant changes in pulmonary microbial communities (P = 0.018, permutational multivariate ANOVA). (B) Despite the differences in community composition, lung bacterial diversity (as measured by the Shannon diversity index) was not significantly altered by viral infection (P > 0.05).
