Evolved clones contained mutations in actP. (A) Pie chart showing types of actP mutation in single‐species and cocultured populations. Mutations were not evenly distributed across ActP and tended to occur by expansion or contraction of a (TGG)4 trinucleotide repeat ∼160 codons from the start codon, indicated with a vertical line. Genome sequencing data were supplemented by targeted sequencing of actP for single‐species plasmid‐free replicates b, e, and f, and cocultured plasmid‐free replicates b, c, e, and f.
